DTV
is coming! Are You Ready? |
|
 |
By
law, television stations nationwide must switch
from the old method of transmitting TV signals,
known as analog, to digital television (DTV) on
Feb. 17, 2009. |
|
DTV is an innovative new type of broadcasting
technology that delivers movie-quality pictures
and sound, more channels, and even high
definition television (HDTV) to consumers with
HD television sets.
While the benefits of DTV are remarkable,
millions of households risk losing television
reception unless they take steps to receive a
digital signal.
So,
why the transition to DTV? According to the
National Association of Broadcasters, digital is
a more efficient way to broadcast that will free
up the airwaves for other uses. |

What
Should I Do? |
|
If
you receive TV signal through an antenna or
"rabbit ears" and you currently do not
subscribe to cable or satellite, you have 3 options
before February 17, 2009:
1. Purchase
a converter box for each television set in your
home that receives TV signals through an antenna. Request
a coupon now.
2. Purchase a new television set with a
built-in digital tuner; or
3. Subscribe to cable or satellite that carries
the channels you want to watch. |

How
To Get A Converter Box Coupon |
|
 |
If you currently receive your television signal through an antenna on your roof or through an antenna inside your house (rabbit ears), you will need a digital converter box to receive a digital television signal. |
Households will be able to apply for up to
two
coupons, which must be redeemed within three months of receipt. The coupons cannot be combined to purchase a single converter box, nor can they be used toward the purchase of other products.
Through March 31, 2009, all U.S. households will be eligible to request up to two coupons, worth $40
each, to be used toward the purchase of up to two,
digital-to-analog converter boxes. |
